あらすじ
蒸気機関の発展によって文明が進んだ19世紀のフランスでは、人知れず吸血鬼（ヴァンピール）が存在していた。吸血鬼の青年ノエは、吸血鬼に呪いをもたらすとされる禁断の魔導書「ヴァニタスの書」を探し求め、パリへ向かう旅の途中にいた。
その移動中の飛行船で思いがけない事件に巻き込まれたノエの前に、自らを吸血鬼専門の医師だと名乗る青年・ヴァニタスが現れる。だが驚くべきことに、彼の手にはノエが追い求めていたはずの「ヴァニタスの書」が握られていた。
